On February 26, 2018, the bodies of 27-year-old Ján Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kušnírová were found in Veľká Mača. The investigative journalist specialized in articles where he clarified the connection between the political elite and the Italian mafia group 'Ndrangheta.
