A mile off the coast of Boston Harbor in Massachusetts lies a tiny island coined Peddocks. On one side rests a shuttered military fort, a local hotspot for summer tourists. But for those brave enough to walk beyond, will find a vibrant community on the island's south-facing side. This tight-knit, working-class community is a relic of a century-old Portuguese fishing village; its lucky few have worked hard to maintain and pass down their humble cottages since the 1800s. Now, the state has claimed the island for parkland, and the current generation is the last to own their beloved summer escape.
