Thirumurugan, a Kollywood director, began his career on television with the teleserial Metti Oli, which earned him a huge fan base, especially among women. His entry into the Kollywood film industry was with Em Magan (2006), which was also much talked about. The film was notably appreciated for its linear narration, which discussed familial bonds in a sensitive fashion.
