Tom Wheatcroft (August 8, 1922 – October 31, 2009) was a British businessman, motorsport enthusiast, and the visionary behind the revival of Donington Park, one of the UK’s most iconic racing circuits. Born in Leicester, England, Wheatcroft developed a passion for motorsports from a young age. After a successful career in construction, he purchased the Donington Park circuit in 1971, which had been inactive since World War II, and undertook an extensive restoration project. Wheatcroft reopened Donington Park in 1977, transforming it into a modern racing venue that hosted numerous prestigious events, including Formula 1, with the famous 1993 European Grand Prix won by Ayrton Senna. Alongside the circuit, Wheatcroft established the Donington Grand Prix Collection, which became the world’s largest collection of Grand Prix cars, showcasing his dedication to preserving motorsport history.
